Mack’s mDRIVE® is a two-pedal, automated manual built to work as a fully integrated powertrain with Mack MP® engines and Mack axles. It delivers smooth, fast shifts, reduced driver fatigue, and lower total cost of ownership. The latest mDRIVE features updated electronics, a redesigned clutch system, and up to 30% faster shifting, with selectable drive modes and intelligent shift logic that adapts to load and terrain.

For severe duty, Mack offers mDRIVE HD and mDRIVE XHD variants with optional deep-reduction (creeper) gearing and multi-speed reverse, giving precise low-speed control, better startability with heavy loads, and lighter weight than many competing transmissions.

Key Features:
  • Automated Manual Transmission (AMT): The mDRIVE is an automated manual transmission, meaning it retains the mechanical advantages of a manual gearbox but automates the shifting process. This eliminates the need for a clutch pedal, offering smoother gear changes and improving driver comfort during long-haul or stop-and-go driving.
  • Integrated powertrain control. The TCM coordinates with MP® engines for predictive shifts, fuel-saving strategies, and grade-aware operation; available Predictive Cruise uses map/topography data to optimize shifting on hills. Econo-Roll and Auto Neutral are also available.
  • Driver-assist functions (HD/XHD). Grade Gripper anti-rollback, Rock Free, and Power Launch improve control on grades and soft surfaces; Enhanced Construction Shift and Heavy Haul Shift tailor shift schedules for rough terrain and high GCW work.
  • PTO flexibility. Factory PTO integration supports single/dual/triple PTOs (DIN or SAE) and multiple speed outputs, simplifying body upfits.
  • Lightweight, durable design. HD/XHD units are hundreds of pounds lighter than some alternatives, improving payload without sacrificing strength.
  • Shifter packages: Fleet and Premium (Premium unlocks added modes such as Dynamic Overdrive and comprehensive logic sets).
  • PTO configurations: Rear-mounted, multiple combinations; piston or gear-driven pump options available from factory.
  • Integration with PowerLeash™ engine brake: Coordinated downshifts maximize retarding on descents.
